It also says that divorce is to dissolve the marriage contract of, either wholly or partially; to separate by divorce. Yet theres no way that either definition can even begin to describe the magnitude of either arrangement. They cant describe the commitment that a marriage entails. They cant describe the pain that divorce can cause. They cant show the level of compatibility that marriage requires. And they cant show the causes of divorce. But Im hoping that this paper can. My goal in writing this is to show that marriage is taken too lightly and yet is something that society shoves down our throats as something we are required to do before death. I will attempt to show the causes of divorce and how we can avoid them by abstaining from marriage in the first place. It is my hope that despite the extre meness of my argument, I will be able to put marriage into perspective and show that the risk of divorce outweighs the benefits of marriage. According to the US Census Bureau, in 1998 2.2 million American couples were married and 1.1 million American couples divorced. Also, 60% of all divorces occur in people between the ages of 25 to 39. Then why is it that people get divorced? On the whole, I think it is because young people dont understand the gravity of marriage. And when theyve entered it and experienced it, they find that its not for them or much more commonly they blame it on the person that they were married to. I asked some people why they got divorced and I heard many different responses. She was crazy, He was overbearing, We couldnt stand each other, and I just couldnt live with someone like that ...
